You are accountable for your actions
In our lives we should be accountable to someone. Children are accountable to their parents; parents are accountable to each other; In communities, people are accountable to their superiors; In a working environment, you are accountable to your manager. Everyone is accountable to someone in this world. If you feel you are not accountable to anyone, re-think? The reality is you must be feeling out of place. Human beings are social beings and therefore we always feel the need to be accountable to someone.
Even in the seminary, seminarians are accountable to every single penny – earned or spent. It is accountable for every expense that is made. Seminarians had to submit detailed bills and proof of payment made to their superiors. In every community, every priest has to submit a monthly and annual statement to our superiors. This is true not only in the accounting sense but also in every action that we do, we are always accountable to someone.
The word of God says in Romans 14:12, “So then, each of us will be accountable to God.” Every human being is accountable to God for every single thing that we do. We are accountable to God in every action we take and in every word we say.
In the gospel of Mathew 12:36 we have already read, ‘for every careless word we utter we are accountable for it in front of God.’ We have to remember when we come in the presence of God, we are coming back to our Master, our God and we have to give an account for every action taken.
If we shoulder our accountability well, we are safe and it gives us protection too. Those who fail in this responsibility of managing their accountability are always in danger. If you are accountable to your Lord, your Master, your Father then you are safe, you are protected. We should thank the Lord for giving us the opportunity to come into His presence and be accountable for all that we do.
