Do you really know God?
We should know our Lord Jesus. We have some information about Jesus but not all. We have heard about Jesus but do we really know Jesus completely? Today many people are struggling and suffering. Some are in turmoil – physical, emotional, spiritual. They have problems in their lives, they are confused, disturbed, frightened; unlike the early Christians. This is because they do not know Jesus enough, even though they are Christians.
In the book of Hosea 4:6, we read, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge.” Here, God is accusing the priests for not teaching the people the knowledge of God. This is very important, here God is saying my people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge not because God is powerless. They are destroyed not because God doesn’t love them. They are destroyed because of lack of knowledge of God-himself.
Today, many people are getting destroyed not because God is not powerful or God doesn’t love them or that we don’t have resources to learn more about God but because we don’t have the thirst to know about Him and the word of God, itself. Hence, God is accusing the priest for not teaching people about Him.
We all know that we have a healing God, but do we know anything more than that? We attend retreats and many other sessions. We listen to the preaching only if it gives us something good in return. Unfortunately, this is not enough. We should know God. We have to move from our self-centeredness and grow to Christ-centeredness.
Let us try to know Jesus. We can try to read the Bible, listen to the preaching, and learn in-depth the different teachings. Let us not just confine our knowledge to just about healing and miracles but growth in deep knowledge for the Lord. Let us get to know Jesus in person rather than just knowing Him as a person in history. Getting to know Jesus in person is different from having overall knowledge about the life of Jesus.
Getting back to the word of God, the verse says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;” The question we have to ask ourselves is ‘Is God going to look at us and say, these people are destroyed because they don’t know anything about me?’ We know many things about Jesus but that is not enough. We need to read every part of the bible. We need to keep learning more and more throughout our lives. We need to thirst for the word of God, with this intention in our hearts.
