My dear brothers and sisters, we need to remember our parents always. We should be grateful to them for what they are and for how they brought us up. They went through all the struggles to bring us up. They accepted our mistakes and our wickedness. Everything that we have done, they tolerated, they enjoyed, they supported. They were there to console us the moment we cried. Now, we have grown up. We may be more educated, more brilliant, more intelligent than they are.
Now, we have a tendency to look down on them. We may feel they are more old-fashioned. We may also feel at times that our parents are a burden for us. Sometimes, for every mistake that they make, for every forgetfulness, and every old age crisis that they are going through, we make fun of them. Sometimes, we insult them publicly. Sometimes, we just ignore them or we don’t have time for them. Many children keep their parents in old age and try to wash off their hands. This is something that we commonly see in many places, in many families, or maybe in our own families. Our children need their grandparents. But we don’t encourage such a relationship in many families.
Let us read the Word of God, Proverbs 30:17 “The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.”
The bible is so strict about it. The Word of God is strict and harsh about these kinds of activities. Let us examine our conscience and see if we have ever insulted and made fun of our parents just because they are old, old fashioned, uneducated, or not as intelligent as we are. Have we done something like this? It is time that we ask forgiveness from them and tell them, “We are sorry, Dad and Mom. We are sorry for those moments.” We should also tolerate many of their mistakes because they tolerated us. They loved us. They supported us. With this, let us offer our own parents and pray for them.
