How to achieve unity in your family?
In this modern world the biggest challenge we face is communication. Communication between parents and children and vice-versa. Many children after they come back home after school, college or anywhere else – get busy in their own world. The first thing they do once returning home is to switch on the computer, mobile or go to their room and shut their door. No one knows what they are up to in their room.
Sometimes parents don’t spend time or don’t get the time to spend with their children because of their busy work schedule. Parents switch between morning shifts, evening shifts and night shifts and once they are back, they have their house chores to take care of. In between all of this, they happen to pass by their children in their house, this is the only time they say a ‘hi’ or a ‘bye’. This is the only communication they have. They don’t get time to speak to their children. This is a curse. This is dangerous. This is not constructive towards building a family.
God says in the Bible, when our God and saviour visits our families, some changes will happen. One of the biggest changes is that there is anointing in the family when God visits us. This is written in the book of Malachi 4:6, “He will turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents, so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse.” If the parent’s heart is not with the children and the children’s heart is not with the parent, then He will strike the land with a curse, meaning that family and house will be affected in many ways. When God comes to our families our hearts will be for each other.
Now-a-days in many families, children’s hearts are with the computer, mobile, internet, movies and so on. When parents come back from their workplaces, they too are looking for their own comfort zones. The Bible says this is dangerous, this kind of family will be struck with a curse. It will lose its protection. The presence of God will be taken away. Therefore, it is important that our hearts thirsts for each other’s company. We love each other and we make time for each other. We should spend time together to get to know each other when we meet as a family. This should happen between husbands and wives; parents and children; children should get to know their parents.
In today’s modern world, when guests visit the family, children are all sent away to their rooms or are in their rooms behind locked doors busy in their own world. No one comes out of their room to greet the visitors. No one cares. There is no oneness in the families. When the Holy Spirit comes into the family, He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children and children to their parents.
How do you know you have the Holy Spirit within your family? Your heart will not be set to the distractions of the world like the computer, phones, internet and all these superficial things. You will feel the need to be with your family – your parents, your brother, your sisters, your children, your community. You will feel the need to build up each and every one in your family and community. Let’s examine our conscience to see if we have the Holy Spirit within our families which unites all of us.
